Is there a bright line? Exploring peri-fertilization knowns and unknowns
Researchers, clinicians, legal, and ethics experts consider peri-fertilization knowns and unknowns related to emergency contraception, missed period pills, ulipristal acetate in medication abortion regimens, and treatment of pregnancy of unknown location, and how they expand or restrict access to contraception and abortion, abortion stigma, and patient-centered decision making.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:  
  1. Describe the current evidence base regarding the mechanism of action for menstrual regulation, contraception, contragestion, and early abortion care.
  2. Name two examples of how the presence or absence of a “bright line” in defining contraception and abortion impacts clinical practice, patient counseling, and access to contraception and abortion care.
  3. Name two examples of the ethical, legal, and policy considerations related to peri-fertilization interventions, including impacts on insurance coverage, reporting requirements, and abortion stigma.
  4. Identify one research gap or research priority related to liminal reproductive healthcare options.
  5. Describe one communication strategy to advance access to liminal reproductive healthcare options within your institutional, local, or regional contexts.
